John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

When Jesus made this statement, He grabbed the attention of the crowd. Bread in the culture of the day was the main meal – not a side dish like in our culture. When we visit a restaurant, bread is served as an 'orderve' or sometimes not served at all. When we visited Lebanon and Egypt last year no meal went without a form of bread. Bread was always the main part of the diet.

When Jesus said I am the bread of life, they understood that Jesus was saying He was not a side dish but the main meal. We need Jesus every hour of everyday, not just on a Sunday at church or certain days of the year.

Jesus needs to be the central part of our lives, without Him – we die – He is the source of life and our daily nourishment.
