Isaiah 55:1-2 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink (water) — even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink and eat – best of all it is free! This is God inviting those who are thirsty, hungry, and broke. He is inviting those who feel empty, unfulfilled, dissatisfied. He invites those with no money, no strength, no motivation. He invites those knowing there is more to life and those with a longing for more.
God offers 3 different drinks, water, milk, and wine.
Water refers to the need for refreshment. When you are most thirsty and most desperate, most dehydrated, it’s water that quenches one’s thirst, and nothing else. Psalm 23:2-3 says: “He leads me beside still waters. He restores (refreshes) my soul”. God invites us to receive refreshment and restoration from Him alone by accepting Him as Lord of your life.
Milk refers to the need for ongoing nourishment. When someone is dehydrated, you give them water. But when you want a little baby to grow day after day, you give them milk. He invites us not only to come alive with water, but also to be stable and strong with milk growing in His word daily.
Wine could refer to the need for exhilaration. There is a child inside of every one of us that God made for exhilaration — for shouting and singing and dancing and playing and skipping and running and jumping and laughing. He invites us to the fullness of joy in being in His presence. True joy can be found in Him alone!
We waste so much ‘money’ and time on things that do not produce lasting refreshment, nourishment, and joy. Come to Jesus and taste the finest food – living the finest life – life in abundance!
